Dr. Jane Lea has been nominated as a CFMS Culture Change Champion

Congratulations to Dr. Jane Lea, Otolaryngology, who has been nominated as a Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS) Culture Change Champion for her contribution to a positive learning environment at UBC! She has made such a meaningful difference in the lives of medical students. Dr. Lea has been very active in global surgical care, with international outreach efforts in the past and more recently outreach to rural and remote communities in BC. She has also been one of three Instructors teaching SURG 518 (Surgical Care in Canada’s Rural and Remote Indigenous Communities with Global Comparisons) in the Master of Global Surgical Care program.

As part of the nomination, the medical students cited:

“Dr. Lea took time out of their busy schedule to speak to medical students about their experiences with global surgery. Their insights into the ethics, realities, and importance of work in this field demonstrated a commitment to education, cultural safety and medical expertise. On behalf of the entire UBC CGSTA Team, we want to thank Dr. Lea for their time, knowledge, and passion.”
